Getting set up with iOS or Android (OLD)

Summary

iOS

  • Provide UDID of your phone to @Matt Buckley (Deactivated) and ask it to be added to the builds. You can get this here: http://whatsmyudid.com/

  • Ask @Matt Buckley (Deactivated) to register you on AppCenter, in the “Internal QA” test group

  • Ask @Arthur Gibson to give you access to our Verification Server

Android

  • Provide Google ID to @Matt Buckley (Deactivated) , and ask to be Whitelisted

  • Ask @Matt Buckley (Deactivated) to register you on AppCenter, in the “Internal QA” test group

  • Ask @Arthur Gibson to give you access to our Verification Server

 

iOS (via AppCenter)

iOS apps can be distributed via AppCenter.

For this to work:

  • The UDID of the phone you wish to test on must be included in the App code.

    • This looks like a good way to determine your phone’s UDID if you don’t already know it: https://get.udid.io/

  • You will need access to AppCenter

If you have a new device that you want to test on, post on the #testing_gaen slack channel, and tag or email @Matt Buckley (Deactivated), including the UDID of the device you want to test with.

Android

There are several steps to getting set up to test on Android

  1. You need your google account to be whitelisted for for testing GAEN.

  2. Once this is done, on your test device, go into Settings > Google  > Covid-19 > Debug mode > and enable "Bypass app signature check". 

  3. You can get hold of APK files from App Center

For step 1, post on the #testing_gaen slack channel, and tag @Matt Buckley (Deactivated) with the Google ID that you want registered.

Once you have the APK file, you need to “sideload” it onto your Android device. If you are unfamiliar with that process, see here: https://androidcommunity.com/how-to-sideloading-apps-on-your-android-device-20180417/

Now you should be up & running!

Accessing App Center

To get access to AppCenter (for iOS or Android), post on the #testing_gaen slack channel, and tag @Matt Buckley (Deactivated). He will add you to AppCenter, and also add you to the “Internal QA” test group, which will give you access to builds suitable for QA as soon as they are available.

Verification Codes

For testing, it’s likely that you will also want the ability to generate Verification Codes.

To do this, you need access to the server.

To be able to create an account on this server, you’ll need your email added to an approved list. Send a DM to @Arthur Gibson on Slack, and he will add your email to the list.
