Background

Some notes from a call with Diarmid Mackenzie/ Jonathon Wright / Pete Jenkins: Gamification

Additional Suggestions from John Kelly, Ben Wilkins, Violeta Ivanova, Phil Sampson, Debora Garfen

🎨 Solution Thinking

  • Safe Paths - Onboarding improvement,

  • Safe Places - Improving accuracy by removing days, routes that are not adding value.

Gamification Pillars

Encourage Share Data

Improve Accuracy

Unified Comms

Suggestions

Encourage Share Data

(tick) Example the benefits (possible lives saved val.)

(tick) Share to social media (i.e. Twitter - referrals)

(error) Explain why sharing data is important

(error) Importance Data privacy (i.e. Ikea / C4 app)

Onboarding

(tick) Levels - Digital Hero (Full Access) > Limited

(tick) Explain how it works (Videos)

(tick) Personalise with Avatar (i.e. Facebook)

(error) Add dummy prompt - with messaging why (video?):

Improving Accuracy

(tick) Geo-based app functionality

(error) Avoid causing anxiety:

Unified Communications

(tick) Generic messaging from HA (re-branding):

(tick) Behavioural Theory

(tick) Neurodiversity Messaging

(error) Avoid causing anxiety - in app & email

Engagement Leaderboard

(tick) HA groups (teams)

(tick) Accuracy, Routes of submissions

(tick) Postcode, region, proximity

(tick) Share my results (i.e. twitter, slack / teams)

(tick) Share my avatar (i.e. snapchat filter, brand awareness)

(error) Dangerous areas highlighted (i.e. Crime Map App)

✏ Gamification Notes

Meeting Notes

Brief notes from a call with Jonathon Wright & Pete Jenkins (Gamification consultant).

What user behaviours do we wwant to incentivize?

  • Having the app installed (i.e. not deleting it!)

  • Keeping location tracking on

  • Recommending the app to others.

What incetivizes people?

  • Reards, badges, things they can share on social media

  • Skill-based games, especially where you can unlock new (harder) challenges as your skill increases.

  • Leaderboards - ideally finely slices by location & time so many people can be “top” in some sense.

  • Ability to form teams & groups - and compete with other groups on these leaderboards.

Some ideas:

  • Personalized download links for the app, where we can track who made the recommendation

  • “Streaks” could work well for symptom-reporting. Need to design mechanics based on how frequently we want people to report their symptoms.

  • Notifications could come from app, but might be better to link in diary apps that can drive the reminder notifications themselves.

  • Location sharing for uninfected people could be useful too: a way to build maps of where people are going in general.

  • A key challenge in the UK is to know where to go that won’t be overcrowded…

  • Suggested prediction game around where the busiest places well be.

  • App could have two modes: “Privacy mode” & “Social mode” - where social mode is willing to share a lot more data, and allow the user to participate in Social games related to the app.
